No gap cataract surgery available everywhere

No-gap cataract surgery is now available for privately insured patients at all locations.

Latest news

I’m pleased to announce that I now offer no-gap cataract surgery to health fund patients at all locations: Seaford Day Surgery, Vista Day Surgery (Wayville), and Glenelg Community Hospital.

When does it start?

April 21, 2021 for all new patients.

Who is eligible?

All patients with private health insurance cover for cataract surgery. Many “Gold/Top Cover” and some “Silver” policies cover cataract surgery, but check with your health fund to avoid disappointment.

Is the surgery itself the same?

Yes. The surgery itself, state-of-the-art facilities, and range of personalised vision-correcting lens implants are exactly the same.

Are there any other out-of-pocket expenses?

More detailed information about cataract surgery costs can be found here.

Your private health fund may charge you a hospital excess depending on your policy. Health funds also do not pay for outpatient medications such as eye drops, or services outside of hospital such as clinic appointments and tests. These sorts of out-of-pocket costs are the same for any doctor or procedure, and are covered well in this article from the Department of Health.
